The majority of literary and artistic works is protected by copyright for the lifetime the creators and thereafter for 70 years. If you are a performing artist, your work is protected for 50 years from the date of the performance, whilst databases and catalogs are protected for 15 years from the date of publication. Contrary to patents, trademarks and designs, it is not possible to register copyright in Sweden. As there is no proof of its validity copyright protection is not as reliable as registered intellectual property rights such as for instance patent, trademark and design registrations. If you want a definitive decision on the extent of copyright protection, you will have to turn to the courts.
