Patent Protection

0If you have created an invention and want to ensure that no one profits financially at your expense, it is advisable to apply for a patent. A patent gives you sole rights to your invention for up to 20 years. Patent rights are meant to promote industrial development in society. Sole rights mean that, for a limited period, you can prevent others from profiting from your invention through activities such as sales or marketing. In return, you have to make your invention public by providing a correct, detailed description. Once your invention has been made public, other inventors and companies can continue to develop it, thereby contributing to technical development.
If an invention is to be patented, it must fulfill a number of criteria. For example, it must be new, differ substantially from other previously known solutions in the relevant product area, and must solve a technical problem. There are many reasons why you should consider protecting your technical research and development with a patent. At first, any investment in research and development is at risk if it is not fully protected. The greater the market potential of your invention, the greater the number of competitors and other players who will try and copy it. If your invention is not protected by a patent, it may be relatively easy, and even permissible, to copy it. Secondly, not only does a patent give you a valuable advantage, it also prevents anyone else from patenting what you have already developed. Thirdly, a patent strengthens your sales potential and attracts venture capital to your company. Fourthly, it gives you greater room to maneuver through activities such as issuance of licenses. This in turn may facilitate technical collaboration with others and can prove invaluable if new markets are to be explored.
We offer patent counsel and service in all areas of technology that can be patented. Our starting point is that it is always in our clients’ interests to safeguard their technical development with a patent.
